Avis United Kingdom Rental Terms for travel between 09-Jun-2015 and 31-Dec-2024


Cancellation Fee

Pay on arrival or deposit

Cancellation fee will apply for rentals cancelled less than 48 hours prior to collection - fee is calculated on cost of rental.
NO SHOW - Full cost of rental may be charged, plus additional no show fee.

Prepaid booking
If you cancel your booking on the same day the reservation is made, no cancellation fee will be applied.
 If you cancel your booking up to 3 days prior to collection you will receive a full refund less €50, £40 (£80 for vehicles from the Avis Prestige Fleet) which will be applied by way of compensation to AFC.

If you cancel your reservation within 3 days prior to the rental date shown in your booking, a fixed compensation amount, similar to the average 3 day rental amount will be applied. If you have rented for less than 3 days , the full amount of the voucher will be kept as compensation.

If you do not collect your vehicle and do not cancel, there is no refund and the full amount of the voucher will be kept as compensation.

Additional Driver (C)
UKL 9.16 plus VAT (and 16% surcharge at premium locations) per rental day per driver (capped at 10 days per 28 day hire). BA Executive Club Customers receive a free additional driver with a BA Executive Card Preferred First and Presidents Club receive a free additional driver.

Administration Fee (C)
Fines processing admin fee UKL 25.00 plus VAT.

Damage Processing Fee (DPF)
Damage Processing Fee is £66 (incl VAT) across all Avis mainland locations. The DPF is applied so that the customer will only ever pay the lesser of either; the total repair costs plus the Damage Processing Fee or the customer’s Non Waivable Excess. In all cases the customer’s damage charge is capped at the non waviable excess for the rate product, if the customer has purchased Avis’s excess reduction cover (e.g. complete protection, zero excess) then there will be no damage or processing fee charge at all.

Baby seats (BBS), Child seats (CSS): daily charge of UKL 8.33 plus vat per seat. Price is capped at 7 days per 28 day hire.

City Surcharge (C)
16% of the rental at Premium locations. London Congestion Charge UKL 11.50 if you drive between 07:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday. Failure to pay the charge will result in a penulty charge enforced by TFL. For more information see WWW.TFL.GOV.UK

Cross Boarder Rentals (C)
UK cars (excl BMW & Mercedes) can be taken into the following countries only: Belgium,Channel slands,France,Luxembourg,Netherlands,Rep Of Ireland, Andorra,Austria,Baleriacs,Bulgaria,Canary Islands,Corsica,Croatia,Cyprus, Czech  Republic ,Denmark ,Estonia ,Finland ,Germany, Gibraltar,Greece,Hungary,Italy,Latvia,Liechenstein,Malta,Monaco,Norway,Poland,Portugal,Romania,San Marino, Sardinia ,Sicily,Slovakia ,Slovenia,Spain,Sweden,Switzerland,Turkey and Uskudar. Two credit cards (One being Amex, Diners or Advantage, the other being a Visa or MasterCard). When Leaving The UK on a cross border rental, customers must give at least 2 working days notice.       

Delivery & Collection (C) 
UKL 20.00 plus VAT and 16% surcharge at premium locations per leg. Reservations accepted via station, internet and call centre. All Avis Delivers customers are subject to an identity check minimum 4 hour advance booking however same day deliveries (Mon - Fri) must be booked by 12 PM GMT time. Same day deliveries on a Saturday must be booked by Saturday 9AM GMT. Cars delivered during a 3 hour window. No out of hours possible. Delivery and Collection cannot be made to railway stations or sea ports. Credit card must be in the driver?s name. Billing address must match address on customer?s driving licence although delivery is not restricted to this address only. Named driver must be available to receive vehicle and show licence and card details. Customer will be contacted by delivery office no more than 12 hours prior to delivery to confirm credit card details and ensure they comply with additional T&Cs of Avis Delivers. The customer will be liable for a non-cancellation fee if they do not comply with these T&Cs. Customer is responsible for fuel between the station and delivery address.

Drivers Licence (C)
Renters and additional drivers must have held a full driving licence for a minimum of 36 months - this must be produced at time of rental.

After June 8 2015, the paper counterpart to the UK driver's licence is being abolished. From then, Avis UK will not require customers to present this when collecting their rental vehicle.

What happens for UK customers renting in the UK?
We will not be asking our UK customers to print a copy of their counterpart or provide an online code*, but we may require customers to consent to their licence records being accessed as needed. All UK customers will need to hold a full and valid licence free from any endorsements excluded in our terms & conditions.

*The following stores will require customers to bring their DVLA 'Share my License' code at the time of rental: Bae Samlesbury, Bae Warton, Barrow In Furness, Blackpool Airport, Bolton, Carlisle, Chester, Kendal, Lancaster, Reading, Stockport, Stoke On Trent, Warrington, Warrington Bank Quay Train Station, Workington. For more information regarding the paper license changes at these locations please contact the store directly. 

An international driving licence is required if the renter or additional driver(s) licence is non-roman alphabet. UK residents must provide a uk licence. an international licence is not acceptable. Visitors from ec countries can use own licence from country of origin. This includes Austria, Belgium, Czech rep, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechenstein, Lithuania, Luxumberg, Malta, Netherlands Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden. Non EC visitors can use own licence for max 12 months after entry to UK. Indian driving licences are only valid in India regardless of the language they are written in. All licences from India should be supported with an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with the local licence.

GPS navigation available at all locations in the UK (subject to availability). Rates vary according to length of rental. Daily rate: UKL 9.99 per day plus VAT Weekly rate: UKL 69.93 plus VAT. The price for GPS is capped at 10 days per 28 day hire.

Minimum Age (C)
The minimum age for groups A, B, C, E, I and M is 23 years. Minimum age for all other car groups is 25 years. All drivers must have held driving licence for minimum 12 months (1 year). the policy applies to both the Avis and Budget brands.

Non cancellation fee (C)
All groups UKL 40.00. Applicable on discretionary rates. Credit card details required, no cash rentals permitted. This charge will only apply if a rental agreement has not been raised prior to pick up, and will be charged 24 hours after the reservation's start date.

Young Driver (C)
Drivers who are aged between 23-25 will be charged the young driver surcharge of £32.50 per day inclduing VAT - capped at 10 days per 28 day hire. Young drivers can only rent car groups A, B, C, E, I and M and must have 1 years driving experience.

 

Additional Passport Checks
All Corporate stations with immediate effect will ensure that all customers that have reserved, been upsold or upgraded to a prestige car must present their passport at the counter prior to check out being completed.  The details of the passport will be entered into the PPN field in Wizard.  This is in addition to producing a valid driving license which remains compulsory. 

Additionally, for all Chairman’s and President’s Club customers, the meet & greet will be performed by a Manager and the above procedures also apply.

If the customer has produced a valid driving license but cannot produce a passport a rental vehicle may not be provided.

The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier's rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
In the event of cancellation, any deposit amounts paid at the time of booking are non-refundable. 

Disputes
If you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
