Arnold Clark Car Rental Rental Terms for travel between 01-Dec-2018 and 31-Dec-2024


1-3 days - 250 miles per day.
4+ days - Unlimited. 



Customers must provide accurate flight numbers and arrival times in advance of bookings that require an airport collection. We are unable to confirm the booking without this information and cannot accept provisional bookings. Any flight changes must be reported to our reservations team or airport branch.  

Delayed flights will be met after the branch closes, up until 10:30 pm and by prior arrangement only. Customers must contact the rental branch before it closes to inform us of any delays and confirm arrangements for the collection of the vehicle. There will be an additional out-of-hours charge of £100 to meet a delayed flight after the branch closes, and up until 10:30 pm. Any delays after this time will not be met and arrangements will be made to collect the vehicle the following morning

  • 1 HOUR BEFORE CLOSURE OF BRANCH - Any flight due to land within the last hour will now be subject to an additional charge of £50.00 


There will be a charge of £100 to meet customers after the branch closes. We are unable to meet customers after 10:30pm. A driver proposal form must be completed and returned 48 hours before the hire is due to start. If payment is not received at least 24 hours before the hire is due to start, the customer will not be met. 

Vehicles can be returned directly to an airport onsite car park with prior notice for an additional charge of £50 ( this is to cover car parking costs). We must have prior notice in order to arrange this.

The last shuttle bus return is 30 minutes before the branch's closing time.  

All branches are at off-airport locations which customers should be aware of.

After collecting their luggage, customers should proceed to the courtesy telephones marked ‘off-airport rentals’ to inform the branch of their arrival.

Customers should return to the branch and the shuttle bus will take them to the airport. Customers should allow sufficient time to get to the branch. The branch cannot be held responsible for customers who arrive late for the shuttle bus and miss their airport check-in. 

Due to ongoing airport security restrictions, a £10 charge is added to all rentals at the booking stage. This charge will show as an ‘Airport Security’ charge and will only be added once to a booking. 

The price of vehicle rental from Arnold Clark Car & Van Rental is inclusive of insurance. We will charge an excess fee for any damage caused to the vehicle. However, an optional excess waiver can be purchased (subject to qualification) which would eliminate this fee.

23-24 years: Group 1-04MP (including 02A and 04MA) (drivers will be subject to a Young Drivers Surcharge of £20 per day (inc VAT)

25-75 years: Groups 6 and all other Vehicle Groups     

75-80 years: Medical proof will be required – Doctors Letter 

80+ years: Groups 1-2 Only.  Excess cannot be waivered. A medical proof will also be required along with a doctors Letter.

1).  UK drivers should bring their valid driving licence (original copies only) and two further forms of identification, one of which must include proof of address. This can be two bills or one bill and another form of photographic identification, preferably a passport. Acceptable documents include utility bills and bank or credit card statements issued within the last three months.

2).  All UK drivers (excluding Northern Ireland) should also bring their access code from the DVLA, which you can acquire from the DVLA’s online Share Driving Licence system.

3). EU drivers must possess a driving licence and either a passport or ID card. Drivers out with the EU must possess a valid domestic driving licence with English translation. If English translation is not available, an international driving permit is required in addition to a domestic driving licence. A passport must also accompany a domestic driving licence.

4). The licence must be valid for the current period of the rental and have been held for at least 4 years.

5).  A licence may have a restriction to the number of seats on a vehicle, which the licence holder is entitled to drive. For most European countries this is 8 plus driver.

6).  Any penalty points should be notified. 

The rental price quoted includes insurance cover for two drivers. An additional two drivers can be added for a charge of £10 per driver, per day. This is capped at five days, provided the drivers meet all the insurance requirements and have a valid driving licence. Our insurance only covers a maximum of four drivers on any rental. The excess will remain at £1,000 and can be reduced to zero with the purchase of excess waiver

We require a £500 deposit on groups 10 and 11. No deposit is required on any other group size. However, this is at the manager’s discretion on arrival at a branch. Customers may be asked to leave a £100 deposit
PAYMENT – PrePay Account

Credit card payment can be made by calling our booking office on 0141 849 7879 or via Worldpay, please ask for the link.  Last minute bookings should be paid at the time of booking.  If not paid in advance, clients will be asked to pay on collection of their vehicle leading to problems. Clients may see prices charged in this case. 

If vehicles are returned in an unacceptable condition the branches are within their rights to add a valet charge. 

Children under 12 years of age, or less than 135 cm in height, are required to use an appropriate child seat. We have baby and child seats available to hire – just ask a member of staff or add it to your online booking. Please note that Arnold Clark Car & Van Rental staff are unable to fit child seats into the vehicle; this must be carried out by the hirer. These can be rented for £1 per day (maximum £28).

We can offer Satellite Navigation Systems for £5 per day (capped at £25).  These MUST be requested at the time of booking. 

All vehicles will be supplied with full tanks and should be returned with the same. If not a 20% refuelling surcharge will be applied. There is an option to purchase the tank of fuel on a collection of the vehicle.   


There will be a charge to drop a vehicle off at another branch out with the same town/city.

  • Up to 7 days - £25 for cars and £50 for all specialist vehicles (autos, estate cars and MPVs).
  • 7-13 days - £12.50 for cars and £25 for all specialist vehicles (autos, estate cars and MPV’s)
  • 14 days plus – Free of charge on all vehicles 


  • Up to one working days notice  – no charge. 
  • Less than one working days notice – 1 day’s car rental will be charged (price dependent on which car group has been booked). 




This is a legal requirement in the UK for anyone conducting any kind of paid tour and driver MUST hold a UK licence. 


Any driving or parking charges are the liability of the hirer. When the customer signs the rental agreement, they sign to accept liability of the above charges. We will pass the customer’s details on to the relevant authority who will pursue the claim. Where Arnold Clark Car & Van Rental incurs any charges, an administration charge of £30 will be applied. Bus lane fines will be paid for by Arnold Clark Car & Van Rental, and then charged to the customer. 

We have a bus and train station pick-up and drop-off service available at our branches.

Edinburgh West’s (Sighthill) collection point is the Edinburgh Park tram stop, which is a two-minute walk from the branch.

Glasgow City Centre (South Street) has five main collection points including Central and Queen Street train stations.

Please enquire for other towns and cities. Subject to availability. Customers must call the branch on the day of collection to arrange a meeting point if an arranged time and collection point has not been made in advance.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed.

A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
